One among the most entertaining of cricket events, Indian Premier League has always been a star show for cricket enthusiasts all over. This year, the cash-rich championship would be stepping into seventh season and is set to start from April 16. The frenzy would be continued till June 1. The post here is all about Indian Premier League 2014.
To begin with, Indian Premier League 7 would be kicking off with 8 squads, instead of 9 due to the withdrawal of Pune Warriors given legal disputes. Among the 8 squads, 3 of them have retained 5 players each while Delhi Daredevils retained none.
The Indian Premier League 2014 auction witnessed the purchase of 154 players of which 50 are international cricketers. There were 80 capped & 74 uncapped cricketers at the auction. 13 Joker Cards (Right to match) were capitalized by the teams at the auction. The IPL 7 auction continued for 2 days at Bangalore- from February 12 to 13. It was Yuvraj Singh who came up as the most expensive cricketer at the IPL 7 auction while Kevin Pietersen was the costliest foreign player.
The 7th season of Indian Premier League would be hosted by UAE & India jointly. It was the clash of dates between IPL T20 and Lok Sabha elections that forced BCCI to host the championship outside India initially. Thus, staying in tune with the current domestic situation, the Indian Premier League 7 will have its initial 20 matches at UAE- played across Abu Dhabi (Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium), Dubai (Dubai International Cricket Stadium) and Sharjah (Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium). The Indian part would be played across Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Ranchi, Cuttack, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mohali.
In regards to schedule, the IPL 2014 is all about to start from April 16 and the first match is between Mumbai Indians & Kolkata Knight Riders at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. The last UAE would be played at the similar venue on April 30, between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 21st match would be hosted at India (JSCA International Cricket Stadium, Ranchi) on May 2 with a game between CSK & KKR. The semi final is on May 30 and the final is on June 1- both would be hosted at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
The Indian Premier League tickets are available online since April 3. As usual, the tickets are in massive demand and around 40,000 were sold out on the first day only. The starting price of single match tickets are AED20 (Abu Dhabi), AED30 (Dubai) and UED30 (Sharjah). The UAE stadiums have just started to sell the tickets from the land-based counters from April 10.
Mumbai Indians would be hoping to retain their winning trophy this time as well. Royal Challengers Bangalore seems to a close competitor to MI given its retention of Chris Gayle and the very upbeat RCB captain Kohli looks the most promising lately. Delhi Daredevils are trying hard to get luck on their favor this time with a thorough restructure of the existing team.
